PABNA, July 30 (V7N) – At least 11 people, including women and children, were injured in a series of stray dog attacks in Pabna, with hospital officials saying three victims remain in serious condition.
The incidents occurred between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning in and around Laskarpur Railway Station, where several stray dogs reportedly chased and attacked pedestrians.
According to local sources, the victims were rescued by residents and taken to the 250-bed Pabna General Hospital, where they received first aid and anti-rabies vaccinations.
Assistant Director of Pabna General Hospital Dr Rafiqul Hasan confirmed on Wednesday that 11 dog-bite victims had been admitted to the hospital. He said three patients had been discharged after treatment, while eight remained under medical care, including three in serious condition. He added that the hospital has an adequate supply of anti-rabies vaccines.
Some local residents claimed that one child suffered a severe eye injury during the attacks. However, the nature and extent of that injury could not be independently verified.
Residents said the number of stray dogs in the Laskarpur Railway Station area has increased significantly in recent years, creating ongoing public safety concerns. They urged the municipality and relevant authorities to take immediate measures to control the stray dog population, ensure treatment for victims, and prevent similar incidents in the future.
When contacted, Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tarikul Islam said he was not aware of the incidents.
The attacks have renewed calls from local residents for coordinated action to address the growing stray dog problem and improve public safety in the area.
