Sunamganj, Jul 12 (V7N)- A rural paved road in Jagannathpur Upazila of Sunamganj has collapsed due to the strong flow of water from upstream, disrupting road communication for around 5,000 people in at least eight villages.

The road gave way on Saturday (July 11) following excessive water pressure caused by continuous rainfall and the surge of upstream water.

According to local authorities, the Kushiyara River, which flows along the Sunamganj-Habiganj border, is currently flowing 14 centimeters above the danger level, increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying areas.

The road collapse has severely affected residents of Balisri, Rouyail, Hilalpur, Tengrakhali, Megherkandi, Harinakandi and several neighboring villages under Raniganj Union in Jagannathpur Upazila.

Vehicular movement on the affected road has been completely suspended, causing significant inconvenience to local residents who rely on the route for daily travel, education, healthcare and transportation of goods.

Officials said immediate repair work is not possible due to the strong current and continued rise in water levels. Authorities will begin reconstruction once the flood situation improves.

In the meantime, local residents have been forced to use alternative routes to reach nearby markets and essential services, resulting in longer travel times and increased hardship.
