RANGAMATI, JUNE 10 (V7N) - The district police have launched a special operation in the Rangamati hilly region on charges of creating an unstable situation and disrupting the normal life of the common people through various provocative activities. As part of the operation, at least three people were arrested in various areas of Rangamati town from Monday afternoon to Tuesday.

According to police sources, those arrested in a joint operation by Rangamati Kotwali Police Station and District Detective Branch (DB) police are AHM Alauddin, a resident of Bhedhedi area, convener of the banned Chhatra League's Rangamati Municipal Committee, Jubo League leader Arafat Hossain, a resident of Shutkipatti area of ​​Reserve Bazar, and Swechchhasebak League leader and alleged teenage gang leader Saiful Islam Parvez, a resident of Mosque Colony in Ward No. 2.

District Detective Branch officials said that Saiful Islam Parvez has a case related to 'Devil Hunt'. He is also accused of running a juvenile gang in the area for a long time and leading various criminal activities.

Rangamati Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Jasim Uddin said, "A special operation is being conducted under the direction of Police Superintendent Muhammad Abdur Rakib to bring those involved in creating panic in the public mind, terrorist activities, mischief by juvenile gangs, the spread of gambling and online gambling, and drug trafficking under the law. This operation will continue."

Police claim that in recent times, a 'zero tolerance' policy has been adopted against social unrest, provocative activities and criminal activities. As part of this, intelligence surveillance has been increased in the city and surrounding areas and operations have been intensified by preparing a list of suspects.

Meanwhile, locals said that relief has begun to return among the general public following the news of the operation. They hope that the ongoing strict stance against criminals and those involved in terrorist activities will further strengthen peace and order in Rangamati.

Police said that necessary legal proceedings are underway against those arrested and that such special operations will continue in the future to ensure public safety.
