Jhalokathi, Dec 14 (V7N) – A burglary took place at the village residence of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha and a potential independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 parliamentary seat, in Nalchity upazila of Jhalokathi district on Friday night.

The incident occurred in the Khasmahal area of Nalchity town on Friday (December 13). Nalchity Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ariful Alam confirmed the matter.

According to Hadi’s cousin Sirajul Islam, thieves broke into the house by smashing a window while no family members were present. The exact amount of valuables stolen could not be immediately determined.

OC Ariful Alam said police visited the scene shortly after receiving the information and assured that those involved would be brought under the law swiftly.

The burglary comes amid serious concern over Hadi’s security, as he was shot earlier the same day in Dhaka. At around 2:15 pm on Friday, while traveling by rickshaw near the water tank area of Bijoynagar in the capital, Hadi was attacked by unidentified assailants. According to witnesses, two attackers arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at close range before fleeing the scene.

Hadi was rushed in critical condition to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Later, at the request of his family, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital in the capital, where he is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Following news of the shooting, family members immediately left for Dhaka on Friday afternoon, leaving the Nalchity residence unattended. Authorities are investigating both the shooting and the burglary as tension and concern grow among supporters and local residents.
