Jhalokathi, Dec 10 (V7N) – The upazila administration of Kathalia on Tuesday marked the International Women Abuse Prevention Fortnight and Begum Rokeya Day 2025 through a series of programs promoting the theme “Let us unite to end violence against women and girls and ensure digital safety.”

The programs began at 10:30 a.m. with a colorful rally jointly organized by the Upazila Administration and the Upazila Department of Women Affairs. The rally paraded through the main streets of the upazila town before concluding at the Upazila Auditorium, where a discussion meeting was held.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Mokbul Hossain presided over the meeting.
Upazila Women Affairs Officer Anwara Begum delivered the welcome remarks.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Fatema Islam and Upazila BRDB Officer Dipankar Chandra attended as special guests.

Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of raising awareness about gender-based violence, strengthening community support mechanisms, and ensuring online safety for women and girls in rural areas. They also emphasized the legacy of Begum Rokeya, whose lifelong activism continues to inspire women’s empowerment in Bangladesh.

Following the discussion, the upazila administration honored several women from Kathalia with “Best Joyeeta Awards” for their outstanding contributions in different sectors, including social service, entrepreneurship, education, and overcoming adversity.

Government officials, journalists, social workers, beneficiaries, and residents from various walks of life participated in the event, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere.
