Habiganj, Dec 01 (V7N) – A minor scuffle between two young men in Madhabpur upazila’s Noapara area escalated into a massive clash between residents of two neighboring villages, leaving more than 100 people injured on Sunday. Police and army personnel were deployed to bring the situation under control.

According to local sources, the incident began on Saturday around 7 p.m. when Tanjil of Bengadoba village and Nazmul of Itakhola village bumped into each other while exiting the premises of a local company. The brief altercation that followed was quickly resolved by bystanders.

However, tensions flared up again on Sunday afternoon. Residents alleged that Nazmul attempted to forcibly take Tanjil away from the company premises, an act that angered locals. As the news spread, residents from both Bengadoba and Itakhola rushed to the spot, leading to a violent confrontation. Loudspeaker announcements from local mosques reportedly called villagers to join, causing the clash to intensify within minutes.

The two sides engaged in fierce fighting for nearly four hours, during which stones were thrown, sticks were used and multiple people from both villages sustained injuries. The number of injured has been estimated at over 100, though local sources fear the actual number may be higher.

Upon receiving reports, police and army teams rushed to the scene and managed to disperse the crowd and restore order. Additional security measures have been taken in the area to prevent further escalation, and authorities are monitoring the situation closely while assessing the damage and identifying those involved.

The cause of the renewed tension is under investigation, and law enforcement officials have assured that those responsible for instigating the violence will be brought to justice.
