Madaripur, Aug 7 (V7N) - A victory rally and public gathering were held in Madaripur on Wednesday, August 6, to mark the anniversary of the 2024 mass uprising. The event was organized by the Madaripur District, Upazila, and Municipal units of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), along with its affiliated organizations.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Alhaj Anisur Rahman Khokon Talukder, Central Executive Committee member and Assistant Secretary for Non-Formal Education of the BNP, and a potential candidate for Madaripur-3 parliamentary seat, delivered a strong message against corruption and anti-democratic forces.

He declared that those who create obstacles on the path to democratic transition cannot be considered friends of the nation or its people. Referring to the martyred sons of Madaripur—Mugdha, Tawhid, and Roman—he vowed, “By the blood of these martyrs, we swear, we will not allow corruption to take root in this country again.”

Criticizing political opponents who refrained from observing the anniversary and instead traveled to Cox’s Bazar for leisure, Talukder questioned their commitment to the cause. “The nation has the right to ask why those claiming sole credit for the uprising chose to spend this day in leisure rather than in remembrance,” he said.

He warned that any new conspiracy aimed at derailing democratic progress would be resisted by the people, regardless of who orchestrates it. Emphasizing the importance of national unity, he said, “The fall of the tyrannical regime of Hasina and the victory achieved at the cost of countless martyrs must not be diminished by disunity and lack of coordination among the forces of the uprising.”

The rally began with a vibrant procession featuring national and party flags, colorful banners, and portraits of late President Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman, and the martyrs of the uprising. The procession marched through various streets of the municipality and concluded at the Municipal Muktamancha field, where the main event was held.

The event was presided over by renowned lawyer and convener of Madaripur District BNP, Advocate Zafar Ali Mia. Joint Convener Mizanur Rahman Morad served as the moderator.

Distinguished guests included former district BNP general secretary and member secretary Jahandar Ali Jahan, BNP leaders Abu Zafar Chowdhury and Mortuza Alam Dhali, former district presidents of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal—Mofazzal Hossain Khan Mofa, and Md. Faruk Bepari respectively—as well as Shahadat Hossain Hawlader, president of the district Swechchhasebak Dal.

Other notable attendees included Enamul Haque Lalchan, former general secretary of the district Krishak Dal, and BNP leaders Md. Rafiqul Islam Matubbar, Asaduzzaman Kichlu Khan, and Md. Shahidul Islam, among numerous activists from the BNP and its affiliated organizations.

The rally concluded with renewed calls for political unity, anti-corruption reforms, and resistance against authoritarianism, reinforcing the BNP’s commitment to democratic values and honoring the sacrifices made during the 2024 mass uprising.
