Tangail, July 17 (V7N) — The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection conducted a raid on Wednesday afternoon, seizing counterfeit cosmetics worth over Tk 50,000 from two stores in Tangail’s municipal area and imposing fines totaling Tk 55,000.

The operation, led by Assistant Director Asaduzzaman Rumel, targeted 99 Shopping Mall at Shila Complex on Victoria Road and Golam Mostafa Cosmetics Store in Kachuadanga. Rumel explained that 99 Shopping Mall was fined Tk 50,000, and Golam Mostafa Store was fined Tk 5,000 for selling fake beauty products. Large quantities of counterfeit items were confiscated from both sites, and the store owners signed legal agreements pledging not to carry or sell counterfeit cosmetics in the future.

Officials from the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) — including district secretary-general Abu Zubair Ujjal — along with sanitary inspector Shahida Akter and local law enforcement, were present during the action. The raid signals a strong enforcement stance against the circulation of dangerous, unregulated cosmetics in Tangail.

By stepping up efforts to protect consumers’ health and economic welfare, the Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating black market pharmaceutical and cosmetic trade. Residents have welcomed the move, hoping for more regular inspections in local markets.
