Mongla, July 2 (V7N) – Allegations of derogatory remarks and organizational irregularities against Mahbubur Rahman Manik, Member Secretary of Mongla Municipality BNP, have sparked protests by a faction of local Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, and Swechhasebak Dal leaders and activists. On Tuesday evening, these activists staged a rally through the main streets of the town followed by a protest assembly in front of the municipal market.

The protestors accused Mahbubur Rahman Manik of making offensive and disparaging comments against local Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal leaders during a BNP council meeting held on June 28 at Ward No. 6, which caused significant anger among party youth leaders and activists. Speakers at the protest included Abul Kashem, Member Secretary of the Municipal Jubo Dal; Ikbal Munsi, Municipal Jubo Dal leader; Khalid Mahmud Sohag, Upazila Jubo Dal leader; former Municipal Chhatra Dal convener Zahidul Islam Saddam; and former Member Secretary Sagar Mir.

Separately, on Wednesday afternoon, a press conference was held by leaders of the Municipal Jubo Dal at a prominent city hotel. In his written statement, Municipal Jubo Dal Member Secretary M. A. Kashem alleged that Mahbubur Rahman Manik has colluded with influential leaders of the former Awami League government to secure business advantages and various other benefits. He further accused Manik of rehabilitating numerous Awami League-affiliated individuals into key positions within the BNP municipal ward committees, undermining the party’s integrity.

At the press conference, recently resigned Municipal Jubo Dal convener Mahmud Riyad responded to various media questions, revealing that Manik had been expelled twice from the party for violating party discipline but had not reformed. Riyad accused him of ongoing irregularities and corruption, which had deeply frustrated and demoralized the local party activists. Riyad strongly urged the BNP leadership to take strict organizational action against Manik.

Responding to these allegations, Mahbubur Rahman Manik stated that those leading the protests are secret agents of rival political parties aiming to sow discord within BNP ranks. He recalled that these individuals were previously sanctioned during the Ward No. 6 BNP council for causing disorder. Manik further claimed that the current unrest and defamatory campaigns are tactics to sabotage the upcoming municipal BNP conference.
