Bagerhat, July 1 (V7N) — To commemorate the July Uprising of 2024, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat organized a series of events including a memorial discussion, prayer session, and a tree plantation drive. The program was held on Tuesday at 4:00 PM at the Banogram Union BNP office, jointly organized by the Morelganj upazila and municipal BNP units.
 
The event was presided over by Md. Shahidul Haque Babul, Convener of the Morelganj Upazila BNP, while Kazi Khairuzzaman Shipon, a prominent BNP leader from Bagerhat district, attended as the chief guest.
 
Speakers at the memorial discussion highlighted the significance of the July Uprising and the sacrifices made during that time. They reflected on the political repression and struggles faced by BNP leaders and activists and called for unity and resilience in the party’s ongoing movement for democracy and justice.
 
Among those who spoke were Abdul Jabbar Molla, Member Secretary of the Upazila BNP; Motiur Rahman Bacchu, BNP leader; Russel Al Islam, Joint Convener and Lecturer; Asaduzzaman Milon, General Secretary of the Municipal BNP; Khelafat Hossain Khasru, General Secretary of the Hoglapasha Union BNP; and Md. Jahangir Hossain Howlader, a BNP leader currently based in Malaysia.
 
Following the discussion and a special doa and munajat (prayer session) for the martyrs and victims of political violence, the party leaders participated in a symbolic tree plantation initiative. Chief guest Kazi Khairuzzaman Shipon planted several saplings of local fruit-bearing trees in the vicinity of Banogram Union Parishad, underscoring the party’s commitment to environmental sustainability alongside its political agenda.
 
The program concluded with a renewed call for grassroots unity and continued resistance against political oppression.
