Rangamati, JUNE 03 (V7N) – A broad coalition of sports organizers, club officials, players, and enthusiasts in Rangamati has jointly submitted a memorandum to the National Sports Council Chairman and Sports Advisor, demanding the immediate cancellation of the newly formed ad hoc committee of the Rangamati Hill District Sports Association. The same demand was formally presented to the District Administrator at 11 am on Monday (June 2).

The memorandum asserts that the ad hoc committee, formed on May 27, 2025, was constituted without adhering to proper procedures and disregarded the opinions of local club representatives, players, and sports organizers. It alleges that several individuals with no prior sports experience and who are not permanent residents of Rangamati district have been included in the committee. Furthermore, accusations of involvement with the "former fascist government" and controversial past activities have been leveled against some members.

The signatories of the memorandum contend that such a committee is detrimental to the district's sports arena and raises fears of politically and organizationally weakening the district sports federation.

Beyond the committee's formation, the memorandum also raises allegations of irregularities and corruption in the ongoing construction of the Sheikh Russell Mini Stadium project in Rangamati Sadar, demanding a prompt investigation and action against those responsible.

The memorandum urges the government to take the matter seriously and act urgently. It warns that if immediate action is not taken, the local sports community will be compelled to engage in peaceful protests, including human chains, protest rallies, and blockades.

Prominent figures present during the submission of the memorandum included District BNP President Deepen Talukder, General Secretary Ed. Mamunur Rashid Mamun, District Club Association Convener Mahbubul Baset Apu, Joint Conveners Dil Bahadur Roy and Abdul Mannan, Member Secretary Preeti Prasun Chakma, and former national team footballer Kingshuk Chakma. They were joined by numerous club officials, players, organizers, referees, and umpires from various sports organizations.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Habib Ullah Maruf received the memorandum, stating, "Your applications and demands will be forwarded to the concerned authorities. The district sports ground will be operated as per the next instructions."
