NETROKONA, MAY 25 (V7N)– After an 11-year hiatus, the Barhatta Upazila unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) held its biennial conference on Sunday (May 25) afternoon at the Barhatta Upazila Auditorium cum Multipurpose Hall in Netrokona district. The conference concluded with the direct election of Mostaq Ahmed as president and Ashiq Ahmed Kamal as general secretary by the councilors.
Out of a total of 497 voters (71 from each of the 7 unions), 485 exercised their right to vote. Mostaq Ahmed secured the presidency with 160 votes under the "chair" symbol, while Ashiq Ahmed Kamal was elected general secretary with 191 votes under the "football" symbol.
The conference was inaugurated around 12 noon by District BNP convener Md. Anwarul Haque. BNP National Executive Committee Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel attended as the chief guest, and BNP Central Committee Mymensingh Division Organizing Secretary Shariful Alam was the main speaker.
Special guests at the event included Advocate Shah Warez Ali Mamun, Co-Organizing Secretary of the Mymensingh Division of the National Executive Committee; Abu Wahab Akand; National Executive Committee Co-Religious Affairs Secretary Abdul Bari Danny; and District BNP member Imran Talukder. District BNP member secretary and central committee member Md. Rafiqul Islam Hilali served as the special speaker.
The first session of the conference was presided over by former upazila committee convener Mostaq Ahmed, with Mymensingh division co-organizing secretary Abu Wahab Akand among the speakers.

In the second phase of the afternoon, the council session proceeded with elections for the posts of president and general secretary. The candidates for president were Mostaq Ahmed, Manik Azad, freedom fighter Rahmat Ali Talukder, and Rashid Alam Talukder. For the general secretary position, Akkas Ali, Ashiq Ahmed Kamal, and Arif Ullah Sohel contested.
