JHALAKATHI, May 24 (V7N) – Voting has concluded and ballot counting is now underway for the biennial elections of the Jhalokati Inter-District Bus, Minibus, Coach and Microbus Workers Union Association. The polls, which commenced at 8 AM on Saturday and continued without interruption until 4 PM, saw a festive atmosphere as 763 voters cast their ballots.
A total of 34 candidates are contesting for 11 executive posts within the union. Advocate Nasimul Hasan, the Municipal BNP President and General Secretary of the Jhalakati District Lawyers Association, is serving as the Chief Election Commissioner overseeing the process.
Key contests for the presidency include the incumbent district workers' party president and former union president, Tipu Sultan (symbol: rose flower), and former organization president, Mujibur Rahman (symbol: bus).
For the two vice-president positions, the candidates are Md. Jalil Sikder (tiger), Md. Faruk Hossain Adu (cow), Md. Milan Mia (elephant), Md. Shahidul Islam Khan (deer), and Md. Harun Sikder (ostrich).
The race for general secretary features Abdur Razzak Rony (pineapple), Md. Nasir Uddin Howlader (table), and Md. Badsha Mia (fish).
Contending for the two associate general secretary posts are Md. Ali Hossain Khan (duck), Md. Manik Khan (rooster), Md. Milan Howlader (pigeon), Md. Alamgir Hossain (candle), Md. Chan Mia Hang (dawat pen), and Md. Jamal Howlader (book).
The organizing secretary position is being sought by Md. Matiar Rahman (coconut tree), Md. Mostafa Kamal (football), Md. Ali Akbar Howlader (table), Md. Jasim Uddin Liton (hand fan), Md. Faruk Hossain Fakir (electric fan), and Md. Mizanur Rahman (lock key).
For the two line editor roles, candidates include Md. Kamal Hawlader (bicycle), Md. Shah Alam (copper), Md. Sumon Hawlader (water bottle), Md. Sumon Sikder (railway), Md. Sohrab Hossain (van), and Md. Hanif Hawlader (cattle cart).
The publicity secretary candidates are Md. Akkas Khan (mobile), Md. Ilias Hawlader (television), Md. Mamun Bepari (mic), and Md. Shahidul Islam (ladder). Finally, Md. Sohel Fakir (call) and Md. Swapan Hawlader (shack) are vying for the executive member position.
All 34 candidates reportedly expressed 100 percent confidence in their victory as the counting process commenced.
