Sylhet, Sept 8 (V7N) – A local man from Subid Bazar, Bonkolapara, Sylhet, Syed Abu Nayeem Azad Tipu, has been issued a court notice to appear in person on September 30 after an investigation confirmed that he provided false information on his National Identity Card (NID) for dishonest purposes.
According to the investigation report of Sylhet Airport Police Station case CR 64/2024, Sub-Inspector Md. Atikur Rahman, the assigned investigating officer, stated that Tipu deliberately concealed his biological father’s name, Md. Kamal Mia, and instead listed the name of deceased war hero Syed Tasir Ahmed as his father to gain unlawful benefits. The investigation, submitted to the relevant court on August 8, 2025, under memo number 4660, comprises four pages confirming the offense under sections 18, 20(2), and 23(1) of the National Identity Card Registration Act-2023.
Tipu, born on April 23, 1994, to Kamal Mia and Sahena Begum, altered his official records on August 8, 2023, through the headmaster of Pathantula Government Primary School in Sylhet city. He successfully obtained a National ID by falsely listing Syed Tasir Ahmed, who had passed away in 1991, as his father.
In October 2022, Tipu submitted this falsified NID to the Sylhet Freedom Fighters’ Association, raising suspicion about his claimed status as a freedom fighter’s son. He allegedly attempted to use the war hero’s lineage to access various benefits and even sought a share of the late Syed Tasir Ahmed’s estate.
The investigation verified Tipu’s deception through documentary evidence, witness testimonies, and cross-checking official records. The case was filed on September 19, 2024, by Syed Abu Muhim Azad, the son of the late freedom fighter Syed Tasir Ahmed, at the Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate 2nd Court, naming Tipu as the accused.
Tipu now faces legal proceedings and must appear in court as per the issued notice to address charges of submitting false and fraudulent information on official government documents.
