Dhaka, Dec 24 (V7N)- Ahead of the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, who has been in exile abroad for more than 17 years, intelligence surveillance and security measures have been significantly strengthened at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Tarique Rahman is scheduled to return home on Thursday (December 25).
The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) said that a multi-layered security cordon has been established across the entire airport area, leaving no scope for security lapses. As part of the heightened measures, entry of anyone other than passengers with valid tickets has been banned for 24 hours, starting from 6:00 pm.
During this period, companions of passengers and visitors will not be allowed to enter the airport premises.
CAAB officials said that the temporary restriction has been imposed to ensure passenger service, maintain security, and uphold operational discipline at the airport.
In addition to members of various security forces, law enforcement personnel in plain clothes have also been deployed and are maintaining round-the-clock vigilance in and around the airport area.
The enhanced security comes amid widespread political attention and public interest surrounding Tarique Rahman’s return to the country after a prolonged absence.
