Dhaka, July 20, (V7N) – Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chairman Abu Momtaz Saad Uddin Ahmed has acknowledged that restoring road discipline is not possible overnight. He made the remarks while joining a BRTA campaign for the first time on Sunday (July 20) to take action against unfit vehicles.
Speaking during the operation, he emphasized the need for regular and sustained drives to prevent road accidents, rather than focusing on the shortcomings of previous governments. He also noted that inspections would be carried out not only on roads but also inside bus depots.
As part of Sunday’s campaign, BRTA officials carried out inspections in the capital’s Farmgate area. They reported that the majority of vehicles checked did not have valid documents. The BRTA chairman stated that legal cases would be filed against all such vehicles.
However, many drivers expressed frustration, saying they cannot be blamed if the authorities themselves fail to provide proper documents. They also complained about difficulties in obtaining driving licenses from the BRTA.
