Jhenaidah, Oct 19 (V7N)- Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman has said there is no legal obstacle preventing teachers registered under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme from participating in local government elections.

He made the remarks on Monday after inaugurating the new building of the Primary Teacher Training Center in Jhenaidah.

The minister said MPO-registered teachers would be able to participate in local government elections as they had in the past. He also expressed hope that the government would ensure fair and orderly elections.

“We should have confidence in the government in this regard,” he said.

Asked about the government’s position on the reported resignation of State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraq Hossain, Asaduzzaman said the Prime Minister would make the final decision if anyone had acted against public expectations.

“If anyone has done anything that goes against the expectations of the common people, the Honourable Prime Minister will take the final decision. No one is above the law,” he said.
