Dhaka, Oct 14 (V7N)- Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has warned of strict action against any attempt to destabilise the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) market, amid concerns over supply and a strike call at the dealer level.
He issued the warning at a briefing on the LPG situation at the Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon.
The commerce minister said LPG was an essential commodity and Bangladesh depended on imports to meet domestic demand, as the fuel was not extracted locally. He also pointed to the ongoing war in the countries from which the fuel is sourced, saying the situation had added to the challenges facing the market.
The situation has been further complicated by a strike call at the dealer level, he said.
Meanwhile, Energy Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmud urged dealers to resolve their concerns through discussions rather than resorting to a strike.
He warned that the government would take legal action if the strike was not withdrawn, adding that authorities would take steps to ensure the public did not suffer inconvenience.
