New York, Sep 08 (V7N)- The 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is set to officially begin on Tuesday, with world leaders and diplomats gathering in New York for another major session of global diplomacy.
Ahead of the session, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres held a meeting with Bangladesh's prominent diplomat and President-elect of the 81st UN General Assembly, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Guterres warmly welcomed Dr. Khalilur Rahman ahead of his assumption of the new responsibility. The two discussed key issues expected to shape the upcoming session, including global peace, sustainable development and the challenges facing multilateral diplomacy.
Meanwhile, the UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh congratulated Dr. Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the 81st session of the General Assembly and wished him success in his new international role.
The UN also reiterated its support for his leadership and efforts during the session.
Bangladesh's assumption of the presidency of the UN General Assembly is being viewed as a significant achievement for the country and a major recognition of its role in international diplomacy, particularly in promoting global peace and multilateral cooperation.
