Dhaka, Sep 07 (V7N)- Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said the main goal of the current government is to create entrepreneurs and expand employment opportunities across the country.

He said new entrepreneurs and jobs would be created through a new project undertaken by Karmasangsthan Bank.

The minister made the remarks at the inauguration and loan cheque distribution ceremony of the 'Small Business, Microfinance and Small Enterprise Fund Project' at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Monday.

Amir Khasru said creating entrepreneurs is one of the government's biggest priorities. Under the Creative Economy Model, a large number of entrepreneurs will be developed at the grassroots level.

He said small and medium-sized enterprises generate more employment than large-scale projects and suggested bringing new products and different categories of entrepreneurs under financing schemes.

"There are many products that have the potential to enter the global market. The government is determined to create and expand those opportunities," he said.

At the ceremony, officials said Karmasangsthan Bank launched the project to support grassroots entrepreneurs who are struggling to expand their businesses due to a lack of financing.

Under the project, eligible entrepreneurs will receive loans ranging from Tk 30,000 to Tk 1 lakh at an interest rate of 5 to 6 percent.

In the initial phase, the project will be implemented in 20 upazilas across three districts.
