Dhaka, Aug 23 (V7N)- The government has managed to reduce harassment of Biman Bangladesh Airlines to some extent, although the situation has not been fully resolved, said Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashiduzzaman Millat.

He also warned that officials who fail to properly perform their duties will have to leave their positions.

The minister made the remarks during a media interaction at the Secretariat on Sunday, his first day in office.

Rashiduzzaman Millat said those who perform well will be rewarded. He said efforts are underway to rebuild Biman Bangladesh Airlines in line with people's expectations by bringing all stakeholders together.

The minister said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to inaugurate Cox's Bazar International Airport as an international airport next October. The government is also aiming to soft-open the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in December, he added.

He further said the government has contacted the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate allegations of corruption at Biman.

Regarding the shortage of aircraft, the minister said Biman is currently unable to operate flights to the Middle East according to demand due to an aircraft crisis.

To address the situation, the government is taking steps to purchase new aircraft, while 10 leased aircraft are expected to be added to Biman's fleet in December, he said.
