Dhaka, July 30 (V7N)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that many people have now identified themselves as July fighters after changing their stance, but those who have changed their positions are becoming more involved in wrongdoing.

He made the remarks at a publication unveiling and discussion meeting organized at the Information Building on Thursday (July 30) morning marking July Martyrs' Day.

Mirza Fakhrul said that no significant changes have taken place in society during the five months since the government was formed. According to him, bribery and corruption are continuing as before.

“Only Tarique Rahman can bring change. He is trying to transform society. Everyone must cooperate with him,” he said.

The BNP leader said it is unfortunate that the living standards of the country's people have not improved even after 55 years of independence.

He said that once a political party comes to power, a system develops within the ruling party to hold on to power, and young people sacrificed their lives during the July movement to change that system.

“If we fail to bring change after the sacrifices of July, all that bloodshed will become meaningless. BNP wants to change this society,” Mirza Fakhrul added.

Meanwhile, Information Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan urged people to remain alert so that no one can use the July movement for personal business or gain.
