Dhaka, Jul 06 (V7N) — Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has reaffirmed the government's commitment to developing rural towns and improving the quality of life in rural Bangladesh.
He made the remarks while addressing a programme marking International Rural Development Day and the 47th founding anniversary of the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) on Monday morning.
The minister said rural development remains one of the government's top priorities and that the elected administration is implementing its electoral commitments through a range of development initiatives.
He said the government is working to improve the living standards of rural farmers by expanding agricultural cooperation, strengthening irrigation facilities and providing agricultural cards to support farming activities.
Mirza Fakhrul also highlighted various social protection programmes, including the distribution of family cards and other welfare initiatives aimed at improving the lives of marginalized and low-income communities.
Emphasizing the importance of inclusive development, he said the government is committed to ensuring that the benefits of development reach every segment of society.
Praising the role of CIRDAP, the minister noted that the organization has been contributing to rural development across the region for nearly five decades. He said CIRDAP continues to play an important role in creating entrepreneurs at the grassroots level and supporting efforts to combat the impacts of climate change.
