Narayanganj, Jun 14 (V7N) – State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam has directed authorities across the country to ensure that no garbage or waste is dumped along roads and highways, emphasizing the government's commitment to modern and environmentally friendly waste management.
The State Minister made the remarks while inspecting waste removal activities and potential locations for new dumping stations along the Dhaka Bypass and Dhaka-Sylhet highways in the Bhulta area of Rupganj Upazila on Sunday morning.
Speaking to officials during the visit, Mir Shahe Alam said instructions have already been issued to all city corporations and municipalities to modernize waste management systems and adopt environmentally sustainable practices. He added that the government has also taken initiatives to produce organic fertilizer, electricity and biogas through waste recycling projects.
The minister said the long-standing accumulation of waste along the highway had drawn the attention of the Prime Minister, who directed authorities to take immediate action. Following those instructions, waste removal operations have been underway in the area for the past two days.
"Cleaning activities are progressing rapidly, and the entire area will be cleared as soon as possible," he said.
Mir Shahe Alam further revealed that work has begun with foreign companies utilizing modern technologies to convert waste into valuable resources. According to him, the planned projects will enable the production of organic fertilizer, electricity and biogas from waste materials, helping reduce environmental pollution while creating new opportunities in the waste management sector.
The State Minister also said that local administrations have been instructed to ensure that waste is not dumped alongside roads or highways in the future. At the same time, the government is moving forward with plans to establish new environmentally friendly dumping stations at suitable locations away from residential areas.
Officials believe the initiatives will contribute significantly to improving public health, protecting the environment and creating a more sustainable waste management system across the country.
