Dhaka, May 16 (V7N)- State Minister for Sports Aminul Haque has said that maintaining law and order in the country is not the responsibility of the police alone, calling for greater cooperation from the public.

He made the remarks while speaking at the “Open House Day” programme held in Pallabi, Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.

The State Minister said that over the past 17 years, the police force had been “used in a way that damaged its image,” adding that the current government has provided full operational freedom to help restore trust between law enforcement and citizens.

He also stressed the need to stop drug trafficking at its source, urging stricter control over the production and import networks linked to narcotics.

At the same event, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Dhaka Metropolitan Police) Additional Commissioner for law and order SN Md. Nazrul Islam said the government has adopted a “zero tolerance” policy against drugs and extortion. He called on citizens to play a responsible role in supporting crime prevention efforts.

Focusing on the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, police officials said various measures are being taken to ensure security, including preventing robbery, extortion, and counterfeit currency circulation during the holiday period.
