Dhaka, May 06 (V7N) — The government is set to take a decision on the proposed Padma Barrage project soon, with plans to place it before the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), according to Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie.
He made the remarks on Wednesday (May 6) after a meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat.
The minister described the Padma Barrage Project as one of the country’s most important initiatives, noting that feasibility studies, technical assessments, and surveys have nearly been completed. He emphasized that the project is expected to benefit nearly one-third of the population of Bangladesh.
Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie also said that discussions during the meeting focused on priority tasks for the next 180 days. Preliminary talks were also held regarding the Teesta Master Plan.
In addition, he announced that the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Chandpur on May 16 and Feni on May 25 to attend canal excavation programs and public gatherings as part of the government’s ongoing development initiatives.
