Dhaka, Apr 20 (V7N) — The government has reaffirmed its commitment to expand job-oriented education by establishing technical educational institutions in every upazila, aiming to significantly reduce unemployment within the next one and a half years.

The announcement was made during a সংসদ session on Sunday under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Kaiser Kamal.

Focus on employment and skills

Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury told the House that the government is prioritizing technical education to equip the youth with practical skills. He expressed optimism that such initiatives would help bring down unemployment in a short timeframe.

Energy exploration initiatives

Power and Energy Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud informed Parliament that efforts are underway to explore new gas and oil reserves in the sea. He noted that the “Bangladesh Offshore Model PSC 2026” is awaiting final approval.

He also added that the Ministry of Finance and Bangladesh Bank have begun steps to recover funds allegedly laundered through quick rental power projects.

Recognition and media sector development

Lawmakers also congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for being included in Time Magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people.

Meanwhile, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan announced that the process of forming the 10th Wage Board for journalists will begin soon to improve welfare in the media sector.

Emphasis on transparency

The session also welcomed an initiative by the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate irregularities in the parliament’s sound system, highlighting the need for accountability and transparency in public institutions.

Lawmakers stressed that these combined efforts reflect the government’s broader agenda to strengthen governance, boost employment, and ensure sustainable economic development.
