Dhaka, Apr 11 (V7N) – State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam has announced an allocation of Tk 300 crore for the excavation of the Zia Sarani Canal under the Dhaka South City Corporation and its connection to the Buriganga River.
He made the announcement on Saturday morning after inspecting the Zia Sarani Canal and Kutubkhali Canal in the Kadamtali area.
The minister said the excavation work will begin from next July, funded by the city corporation, with major activities starting during the monsoon season. Initial cleaning work has already commenced.
He also emphasized that all canals in Dhaka will be recovered through a coordinated effort, and action will be taken against encroachers after preparing a comprehensive list.
During the inspection, Abdus Salam, Tanvir Ahmed Robin, and other officials from the South City Corporation accompanied the State Minister.
