Dhaka, Apr 09 (V7N) – The opposition staged a walkout on the 12th day of the first session of the 13th National Parliament on Thursday at 5:56 pm, protesting the passage of what they termed “anti-people” bills.

Jamaat Ameer and opposition leader in Parliament Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “It is sad but true that despite our logical objections, we do not want to take responsibility for the number of anti-people bills passed today. That is why we are walking out.” Following his statement, opposition MPs left the parliamentary session one by one.

The walkout came after the passage of several ordinances issued by the interim government, along with bills repealing some of these ordinances.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman specifically mentioned opposition objections to multiple pieces of legislation, including the Local Government (Municipality) Amendment Bill, District Council (Amendment) Bill 2026, National Human Rights Commission (Repeal and Reinstatement) Bill, Supreme Court Secretariat (Repeal) Bill, Supreme Court Judge Appointment (Repeal) Bill, and National Freedom Fighters Council (Amendment) Bill.
