Dhaka, Mar 15 (V7N) — The second day of the first session of the 13th National Parliament of Bangladesh began at 11:00 am on Sunday (March 15). The session started with the question-and-answer segment, where members of parliament raised various issues.
The first session of the 13th Parliament began last Thursday. On that day, Parliament Leader and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman delivered the opening speech of the session.
Following the speech, veteran politician and MP Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain was unanimously nominated as the presiding officer (president) of the session. Under his chairmanship, the election process for the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament was completed.
Later, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed (Major, Retd., Bir Bikram) took oath as the Speaker of the National Parliament, while Kaiser Kamal (Barrister) was sworn in as the Deputy Speaker. The oath ceremony was administered by President Mohammed Shahabuddin at the President’s Office inside the National Parliament complex shortly after 12:00 noon that day.
The newly elected Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed presented a condolence motion, followed by a discussion on former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and the martyrs of the July Uprising.
After the discussion, President Mohammed Shahabuddin delivered the customary presidential address.
According to parliamentary authorities, the first session of the 13th National Parliament will continue until April 30, with sittings scheduled to begin daily at 3:00 pm, except on public holidays.
