Dhaka, Feb 25 (V7N)- Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday described the BDR massacre as the most shameful incident in the country’s history, saying the tragedy remains a painful chapter for the nation.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after paying tribute to the martyred army members in the morning.
The minister said around 72 officers and employees, including 57 BDR officers, were killed in the incident, calling it a day of deep national grief and humiliation.
According to him, the killings were part of a “deep conspiracy” aimed at dismantling the country’s entire security system and breaking both the morale of the armed forces and the spirit of the nation.
Mirza Fakhrul also said the people of Bangladesh have repeatedly stood firm to protect independence, sovereignty and democracy. He added that after assuming responsibility for governing the country following the last election, the BNP has an opportunity to further strengthen democratic institutions and national sovereignty.
He further stated that an impartial investigation would be carried out into the killings and that those responsible would be brought to justice.
