Dhaka, Feb 23 (V7N)- Administrators have been appointed to a total of six city corporations, including Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation, and elections to these bodies will be held soon, said Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Local Government Minister.

He made the remarks on Monday (February 23) morning at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka.

Mirza Fakhrul said the BNP government is working toward building a “new Bangladesh.” He added that after the parliamentary session, work on reserved seats for women will begin, and individuals associated with and contributing to the party will be considered as candidates.

He further claimed that the BNP has quickly secured a place among the people and expressed optimism that the party would build a happy and prosperous country under the leadership of Tarique Rahman.

Responding to reports of offices of the Awami League reopening in various parts of the country, he said the party’s activities remain banned and that they are not supposed to open offices.

At the event, Mirza Fakhrul also acknowledged and appreciated the role of journalists during the 17-year democratic movement.
