Dhaka, Nov 24 (V7N)- Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman has said that the harassment of journalists in Bangladesh will not stop unless the overall mentality of the state changes. He made the remarks on Monday morning (November 24) while speaking at the CGS research report release ceremony in Dhaka.

He emphasized that all restrictive laws against journalists must be repealed, expressing hope that the government formed after the upcoming national elections will take effective steps in this regard.

The Attorney General further said that the narrative of journalists must evolve so that they can protect their own voice and exercise freedom responsibly.

Speaking about the Digital Act, Asaduzzaman noted that such a law is necessary to protect the rights of citizens and journalists, and to ensure that the culture of fear does not return to the country.

At the same event, Barrister Sara Hossain, a senior Supreme Court lawyer, questioned the extent to which freedom of expression for journalists is actually protected under current laws and practices.
