Shabwa, Oct 20 (V7N)- At least 58 people have been killed and more than 200 others injured in an attack on a government security training camp in Yemen’s Shabwa province, according to provincial Governor Awad al-Wazir.
The governor said on Monday, October 19, that 14 people remained missing following the shelling of the Al-Alam training camp.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sari confirmed on social media that the group had carried out an attack on the facility. He claimed the camp was operated by Saudi forces.
Saudi authorities had not immediately responded to a request for comment on the claim, according to the information available.
The attack comes amid ongoing hostilities between the Iran-backed Houthi movement and Yemen’s internationally recognised government, which is supported by a Saudi-led coalition.
The conflict has reportedly intensified since September, following Houthi advances near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a strategically important maritime passage connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.
The reported casualties and extent of the damage underscore the continuing humanitarian and security risks posed by the conflict. Further details about the circumstances of the attack and the identities of those killed and injured were not immediately available.
