Riyadh, Sep 13 (V7N)- Tensions remain high along Yemen’s coast amid continued attacks between Saudi Arabia and Houthi forces, with intense fighting reported around the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
Two people were injured after a projectile fired by the Houthis struck Saudi Arabia’s Jazan region near the Yemeni border, according to Saudi authorities.
The attack damaged a mosque, several buildings and vehicles, Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence Directorate said on Saturday (September 12).
The latest incident comes as Houthi forces have made a series of military gains in recent days, increasing pressure on Yemen’s internationally recognized government forces.
The Houthis have captured several strategically important locations, including the Red Sea port city of Mocha and Perim Island, expanding their control along Yemen’s Red Sea coastline.
The developments have raised concerns over the security of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a crucial maritime route connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and the wider global shipping network.
However, the Houthis have said they will not obstruct the movement of vessels belonging to countries other than Saudi Arabia.
The announcement has nevertheless heightened concerns over the potential impact of the escalating conflict on international shipping and the security of one of the world’s most important maritime corridors.
