New Delhi, Sep 12 (V7N)- Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks in Delhi on Friday as Putin began a three-day visit to India to attend the BRICS summit.
According to Indian media outlet NDTV, the two leaders discussed a wide range of issues, including politics, trade and the economy, defense, energy, space cooperation and broader bilateral relations.
The meeting marked the second encounter between Putin and Modi this year. The two leaders previously met on August 31 on the sidelines of the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek.
During Friday’s talks, Modi and Putin also discussed the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and tensions in the Black Sea region. Both situations have affected maritime trade and raised concerns over the safety and security of Indian sailors.
Modi told Putin that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only way to resolve such conflicts, according to the report.
Earlier, Modi presented Putin with a Russian-language translation of the Thirukkural, the renowned work of Tamil poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar.
The ancient text contains extensive teachings on agriculture, farmers and various aspects of social and cultural life. The presentation was seen as a gesture highlighting the longstanding cultural and civilizational links between India and Russia.
Following their bilateral meeting, Modi and Putin traveled together in the same vehicle. It was reportedly the third occasion on which the two leaders have shared a car, drawing attention during Putin’s India visit.
Putin’s three-day trip is expected to further strengthen discussions on trade, energy, defense and strategic cooperation between India and Russia amid rapidly changing global geopolitical dynamics.
