Tehran, Aug 29 (V7N)- Iran’s imports and exports have declined by between 25 and 35 percent due to the impact of US sanctions, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said.
Pezeshkian made the remarks during an interview with journalists on Friday (August 29).
He said Iran had exported around 90 million barrels of oil during a short period of ceasefire, but that level of exports is no longer being maintained.
“Due to the sanctions, Iran’s imports and exports have decreased by 25 to 35 percent. Exports have declined the most,” Pezeshkian said, arguing that the figures demonstrate the significant impact of sanctions on Iran’s economy.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has warned that countries helping Iran economically withstand the sanctions could face serious consequences.
Against this backdrop, Iran’s major trading partners—including China, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, India, Pakistan and Oman—could face increased pressure from Washington.
The United States has already imposed sanctions on several Iraqi banks over allegations that they conducted business with Tehran.
Iran has been under extensive US economic sanctions for years, particularly targeting its oil exports and financial sector.
