Reno, Aug 25 (V7N)- A massive wildfire has swept through northern Nevada, burning at least 13,000 hectares of land and forcing tens of thousands of residents to evacuate.
The fire has been spreading rapidly in the northern areas of Reno since Saturday, prompting authorities to evacuate around 42,000 residents to safer locations. Another 45,000 people have been ordered to remain prepared for possible evacuation as the blaze continues to threaten nearby communities.
Large numbers of firefighters are working to contain the wildfire. Helicopters are also being used to drop water and fire-suppressing chemicals over affected areas.
At least six people, including three firefighters, have reportedly been injured while responding to the disaster.
Authorities are also investigating allegations that the wildfire may have been deliberately started by human activity. An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the blaze.
Fire crews remain on high alert as officials monitor the fire's movement and assess the risk to surrounding communities.
