Washington, Jul 22 (V7N) – US President Donald Trump has accused Iran of attempting to influence the upcoming US Congressional midterm elections by threatening military action and disrupting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, while insisting that such efforts will have no effect on American politics.
According to Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera, Trump made the remarks while responding to concerns over the impact of the escalating conflict with Iran ahead of the November elections.
"The election and this fight, or the Iran crisis, are two completely different things," Trump said. "I will only take the right action in terms of national security."
The president added that his administration's decisions would not be guided by electoral considerations.
"There is no time to think about the election. I think the people of the country are very impressed and satisfied with the steps taken by the US government," he said.
