Tamil Nadu, Jul 16 (V7N)- A massive fire broke out at a municipal garbage dump in Karur city in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, sending thick black smoke across the surrounding area and causing severe discomfort to nearby residents.
The fire started at around 8:00 pm local time on Wednesday (July 15) and quickly spread through a large accumulation of waste.
The blaze generated intense heat and dense black smoke, while the burning garbage produced a strong foul odor that affected the surrounding neighborhoods. The fire continued to burn for more than five hours, forcing local residents to endure difficult conditions throughout the night.
Several units of the fire service were deployed to the scene and worked for hours to bring the blaze under control.
The landfill is owned and managed by the Karur City Municipal Corporation.
Authorities said a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire. No immediate reports of casualties or injuries were available.
