Tehran, Jul 12 (V7N)- Iran has reaffirmed its determination to maintain control over the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz, with a senior Iranian lawmaker declaring that the country will preserve its authority over the vital waterway "by force."
Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, made the remarks in a post on the social media platform X amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.
"We have taken control of the Strait of Hormuz by force, and we will preserve it by force," Rezaei wrote.
His comments come at a time of growing international concern over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most critical maritime routes for global energy supplies.
A significant portion of the world's crude oil and liquefied natural gas shipments passes through the narrow waterway each day, making its stability crucial to international trade and global energy markets. Any disruption or escalation in the region could have far-reaching economic consequences.
However, Rezaei did not elaborate on the context of his statement or indicate whether it was linked to any new military deployment, security operation, or political decision by Tehran.
The latest remarks are expected to draw close attention from the international community as geopolitical tensions continue to influence security and shipping activities in the Gulf region.
