Karachi, Jul 09 (V7N)- The wreckage of a Boeing 737 cargo aircraft operated by K2 Airways, which was flying from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, to Karachi, Pakistan, has been recovered from the Arabian Sea following an extensive search operation.
Pakistani authorities said the wreckage was located after a 12-hour joint search and recovery mission conducted by the Pakistan Navy and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency. However, the five crew members aboard the aircraft remain missing.
According to airport authorities, the cargo plane experienced a technical problem with its navigation system shortly after taking off from Sharjah on Tuesday night. The aircraft reportedly began losing altitude rapidly before changing course toward the sea.
Officials said the aircraft disappeared from radar approximately three minutes after its last contact with air traffic control and later crashed into the Arabian Sea, about 155 nautical miles west of Karachi.
Following the recovery operation, naval personnel retrieved sections of the aircraft's main fuselage near the Ormara Naval Sub-Base, while search efforts for the missing crew continue.
The airline identified the missing crew members as Captain Muhammad Rizwan Idris, First Officer Faisal Jatoi, Flight Engineer Muhammad Hamid, Flight Engineer Muhammad Arif Siddiqui, and Loadmaster Muhammad Tawfiq Khan.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash, while search teams continue operations in hopes of locating the missing crew members and recovering the aircraft's flight recorders.
