Washington, Jun 12 (V7N) – US President Donald Trump has announced the cancellation of a planned military operation against Iran, shortly after previously warning of a possible large-scale strike targeting Iran's Kharg Island.
The announcement came through a post on Trump's social media platform, Truth Social, on Thursday.
According to the US President, the decision was made following discussions with senior leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as consultations with several countries in the region.
Trump stated that diplomatic contacts had taken place with Iran and that, based on those discussions, the planned attack and bombing operation had been called off.
"Discussions have been held with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Based on those discussions, the planned attack and bombing of Iran as President of the United States have been canceled," Trump said in his statement.
The announcement comes amid renewed tensions between Washington and Tehran, following a series of military threats, regional security concerns and escalating rhetoric between the two countries in recent weeks.
Observers view the decision as a potential step toward reducing tensions in the region, although uncertainty remains over the future course of US-Iran relations.
