New Delhi, May 27 (V7N)- Indian shipping authorities have announced that 10 Indian sailors detained in Iran have been released following prolonged diplomatic efforts.

According to the international news agency AFP, the sailors were detained in July 2025 while working aboard an oil tanker that was seized near the Iranian port of Jask.

In a statement, Directorate General of Shipping said the sailors had been arrested and imprisoned after Iranian authorities took control of the vessel.

The agency confirmed that the detained crew members have now been freed and safely reunited with their families.

The statement also noted that arrangements are being made for the sailors’ swift return to India.
