Washington, D.C., May 13 (V7N) – US President Donald Trump has sharply criticized American media coverage of the Iran war, calling reports suggesting Iran remains in a strong military position a “virtual betrayal.”

According to a report by Al Jazeera on Wednesday, Trump made the remarks in a post on his social media platform Truth Social.

In the post, Trump accused sections of the US media of assisting the enemy by publishing reports that, according to him, create false hope for Iran.

“They are helping the enemy. This only gives Iran false hope, which they should not get,” Trump wrote, although he did not specify which media organizations he was referring to.

The US president further stated that “only defeated, ungrateful and stupid people can take a stand against America.”

Senior officials in the Trump administration have previously criticized several American media outlets over their reporting on the Iran conflict, particularly stories questioning US military strategy and battlefield developments.

Meanwhile, CNN reported, citing unnamed officials, that Trump personally pressured the US Justice Department to issue subpoenas against journalists in an effort to identify sources connected to war-related reports.

The developments have intensified concerns among press freedom advocates over growing tensions between the White House and major US media organizations amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
