Washington, D.C., Apr 26 (V7N)- US President Donald Trump has described the suspect arrested in a shooting incident near the White House Correspondents’ Dinner as a “very sick man,” following a security breach that caused panic at the high-profile event.

Speaking at a press conference at the White House after the incident on Saturday night, Trump said, “The man has been arrested. They’re going to his apartment. I think he lives in California. He’s a sick man, a very sick man. We don’t want to see that happen.”

The incident occurred at the Washington Hilton, where the annual dinner was being held. According to officials, a suspect armed with multiple weapons attempted to breach a security checkpoint but was quickly subdued by members of the United States Secret Service.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect has been taken into custody and an investigation is underway. One security officer was struck during the incident but was protected by body armor and did not suffer serious injury.

The shooting prompted an immediate evacuation of President Trump and other attendees. Officials described the attacker as acting alone, and there is currently no indication of a wider threat.

Despite the alarming situation, no guests at the event were reported injured. Law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate the suspect’s motive and background.
