Red Sea, Apr 19 (V7N) — The US aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford has arrived in the Red Sea after transiting through the Suez Canal from the Mediterranean, according to confirmation from the Pentagon.
The carrier, widely regarded as the world’s largest warship, had been stationed in the Mediterranean for over a month for repairs following a reported onboard fire before being redeployed to the Middle East region.
Accompanied by destroyers
Alongside the carrier, two US Navy destroyers — USS Mahan and USS Winston S. Churchill — are also moving toward the Middle East as part of the naval deployment.
Pentagon confirms deployment
The US Department of Defense confirmed the movement, stating that the deployment is aimed at strengthening military readiness in the region amid ongoing instability.
Rising regional tensions
Officials indicated that the naval presence is intended to ensure operational preparedness in case of further escalation, particularly if current ceasefire arrangements in the region break down.
The deployment comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tension in the Middle East, with several countries involved in ongoing diplomatic and military standoffs.
