Moscow, Dec 22 (V7N)- A senior officer of the Russian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, has been killed in a car bomb explosion in Moscow, the Russian capital, British media outlet BBC News reported on Monday. Sarvarov was 56 years old.
The Russian Investigative Committee said that Sarvarov, head of the operational training department of the Russian Armed Forces, died when a bomb planted under his car detonated on Monday morning local time. Preliminary investigations suggest that Ukrainian intelligence agencies may be involved, though Ukraine has not issued any official statement regarding the incident.
This attack follows a series of targeted strikes against Russian military officials in Moscow since the start of the full-scale military operation in Ukraine in February 2022. In April this year, General Yaroslav Moskalyk was killed in a car bomb attack, and in December 2024, General Igor Kirillov was killed by an explosion planted on a scooter. A Ukrainian source later told the BBC that Ukraine’s security services were involved in Kirillov’s death, though Kyiv has never officially claimed responsibility for such attacks.
