Rio Grande do Sul, Dec 18 (V7N) — A 110-foot-tall replica of the Statue of Liberty collapsed in the Brazilian city of Guaíba, in Rio Grande do Sul state, after being struck by powerful winds, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred at around 3:00 pm local time on Monday, and was later reported by US-based media outlet CNN on Tuesday.
Video footage circulating on social media shows the towering statue slowly tilting under the force of the storm before suddenly crashing into a nearby parking area. Fortunately, officials confirmed that no injuries were reported.
Authorities said the structure had been installed in 2020 by a department store, where it served as a symbolic landmark and promotional attraction.
An investigation is expected to determine whether structural weaknesses or weather-related factors were responsible for the collapse.
