Manila, Nov 07 (V7N) — The death toll from Typhoon Kalmegi in the Philippines has reached 188, with at least 135 people reported missing. The storm has also claimed five lives in Vietnam, according to a report by the BBC.
The powerful typhoon struck central Philippines on Tuesday (November 4) with winds reaching approximately 150 km/h, triggering heavy rainfall, flooding, and widespread destruction. Roofs of houses were blown away, large windows shattered, and thousands of trees were uprooted.
Thousands of residents sought shelter in schools and government buildings, while many were evacuated to safer areas. The Philippine army has been deployed to assist in relief and recovery operations. Authorities have issued flood warnings for low-lying regions.
Typhoon Kalmegi has already leveled parts of the country, causing severe damage and flooding, and is now moving toward Cambodia and Laos, raising concerns for neighboring countries.
